Case: Historical Characters as Living Hosts
History as encounter. Presence as storytelling.
Developed as an immersive heritage experience, this concept explored how historical figures can transform a traditional guided tour into a living narrative.
Guests were welcomed into the world of Carlsberg through encounters with J.C. Jacobsen and members of his family, who appeared throughout the brewery to share the ambitions, conflicts, and vision that shaped one of Denmark’s most iconic institutions. Rather than delivering history through information alone, the experience unfolded through character, conversation, and carefully staged moments integrated into the tour itself. The story continued beyond Carlsberg. Later that evening, guests arrived at the Glyptotek — another of J.C. Jacobsen’s lasting contributions to Danish culture. Here, familiar characters reappeared, creating continuity between locations and connecting the brewery, the museum, and the gala dinner through a single narrative thread. Rather than presenting history as a performance to watch, the experience invited guests to step inside it. Through authentic costumes, period characters, and carefully choreographed interactions, the past became a natural part of the present.
From historical research and script development to casting, costumes, direction, and live execution, every element was designed to create a seamless journey. The result was not simply a tour or a dinner, but a story unfolding across time, place, and audience — transforming heritage into a shared experience.
